Lack of mentorship in northern Nigeria

This is going to be a bit uncomfortable for you if you're selective with your truths.

Lack of mentorship in the north

We have the highest mentor-mentee ratio deficit in the country compared to other regions. What I mean is, there is a huge number of successful people in the north who do not translate their wealth, knowledge and influence into mentorship for young people.

And it's just tragic that we have the highest number of young people in need of guidance.

The igbos have this system of apprenticeship they have replicated in every part of the world they find themselves in (even in the north) and it has produced a countless number of millionaires for them, regardless of the educational background or cultural orientation. This might be practiced by a handful of us but it isn't something that is culturally rooted.

This is not even a tribal stuff but just pure recognition of value and growth that isn't entirely monopolized if we want to adopt.

Now more than ever, young people clamor for guidance and enlightenment from people who have experience but instead, there's more young people thrown into political servitude and thuggery than valuable mentorship.

If you look closely, the Nigerian social space is marked by a group of men from the eastern part of the country who have built a network of growth in diverse sectors and expand with their kinsmen.

This is the only path of cultural growth where you're not criticized for nepotism because it's independent and built towards cultural prosperity.

Also, this is not industry specific. Whatever the industry or business direction, so long as it is legal, lucrative and religiously permissible, there is a space for mentorship.

It's just tragic that many of our successful people are more comfortable with people who come for maula than benefiting knowledge wise.

Like they usually say, give a man a fish and he'll come back for more when it's finished. Teach a man how to fish, and you can set him up for life.

So, how many successful people among you have adopted the mode of mentoring younger ones to tow the path of success like you have?
