Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has reasserted that the four newly created emirates by his administration will remain permanent. The Governor made this announcement during the Workers’ Day celebrations held at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano on Monday 1st May 2023
However, Ganduje, who split the Kano emirates into five and dethroned the then Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, maintained that the creation of the four new emirates was for the unity, progress, and well-being of the people. He added that the emirates were created to honor the people of the regions and restore the reputation of traditional institutions.
Governor Ganduje further emphasized that the new emirates have brought development to these regions and are permanent structures that will remain in place. He warned that anyone who attempts to destroy them will not be brought to Kano State by God Almighty.
“The emirates are a symbol of the unity, progress, and well-being of our people. Even if we are not in government, we are praying and we will keep praying for God to protect these emirates from all evils," he said.
The creation of the new emirates has been a controversial issue in Kano since 2020, with some people supporting the move while others opposing it. Nevertheless, Governor Ganduje’s announcement reaffirms his administration's commitment to the establishment of the new emirates as a means of promoting development and progress in the state.
