Pressure Mounts as President Buhari Expresses Impatience for May 29

President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that he is feeling the mounting pressure as the eagerly anticipated date of May 29 approaches. In a recent statement, the President expressed his impatience and acknowledged the high expectations surrounding his tenure.






As the nation eagerly awaits the inauguration of the 16th democratically elected President of Nigeria, Buhari, who will be handing over power to his successor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, revealed that he is aware of the immense responsibilities that lie ahead. 


Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the Armed Forces Officers Mess and the last presidential/regimental dinner held in his honour by the Military High Command at new Mess, Asokoro in Abuja. The President, who arrived at the dinner almost an hour behind schedule, offered his apologies to the invited guests. He explained that he had been facing tremendous pressure to handle the multitude of activities and festivities planned for the May 29 inauguration, in addition to fulfilling his official obligations. 


He said:  “Please, I will like to digress a bit from the prepared speech. I apologise most sincerely for keeping you waiting for at least half an hour.

”Actually, I can hardly cope with the pressure and I’m desperately looking forward to the next six days, before saying good night at about 11pm.”


Throughout his tenure, President Buhari has faced numerous challenges ranging from security issues to economic concerns. Despite these difficulties, he has remained committed to serving the Nigerian people to the best of his ability. As the transition of power approaches, the President emphasized his determination to fulfill his duties and ensure a smooth handover to the incoming administration.


During the event, President Buhari expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the military, police, para-military, and other security and intelligence services for their unwavering loyalty, dedication, and sacrifices made to ensure the security of the nation. He acknowledged their efforts in addressing security challenges and their significant contributions to the successful elections.


However, the President emphasized that more needs to be done to overcome the issue of insecurity in the country. He urged the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies to remain resolute in tackling security challenges. President Buhari assured them that his administration, despite nearing its end, would continue to provide the necessary support to enable them to carry out their constitutional responsibilities effectively.


The President took a moment to honor the fallen heroes, praying for the repose of their souls and acknowledging that their ultimate sacrifice will never be in vain. He commended the Chief of Defense Staff, the Minister of Defense, service chiefs, and heads of other security agencies for their dedicated service to the nation.


The dinner was attended by several dignitaries, including General Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Defence Staff, as well as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Minister of Defence, and other prominent figures from various sectors. Former service chiefs and high-ranking officials were also present, along with representatives from military establishments and institutions.


Decked in his Nigerian Airforce Mess Kit, President Buhari, adorned with the rank of Marshall of the fleet, delivered his remarks from the high table. The event provided an opportunity for the President to recognize the collective efforts in safeguarding the nation's security and to express gratitude for the presence of esteemed guests.


The dinner served as a moment of reflection, appreciation, and solidarity as the nation continues to address security challenges while preparing for the transition of power.



As May 29 draws near, the nation remains on the edge of its seat, eagerly anticipating the inauguration of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the commencement of a new era.
