President Tinubu of Nigeria Has Said That Second Term Is Not His Focus for Now

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has affirmed that he is not preoccupied with the prospect of running for a second term in 2027, stressing that his administration's focus is squarely on solving the country’s pressing issues.

Speaking during the APC South-West Zone Assembly in Lagos, represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, Tinubu addressed concerns over his administration’s performance amid growing economic challenges. He acknowledged that Nigerians are facing tough times, but reaffirmed his commitment to improving the nation’s economic prospects and overall well-being.

Tinubu’s statement came amid rising speculation about his future political ambitions, with some observers questioning whether he is already eyeing re-election. However, the president insisted that it was premature to discuss a second term, pointing out that it would be irresponsible to do so given the urgent need to address the current difficulties faced by Nigerians.

“We understand the hardships people are facing,” Tinubu said through his representative. “But our focus remains on finding lasting solutions to the country’s problems, not on politics. We will build a future that benefits every Nigerian.”

The president also highlighted some of his administration's efforts, including policies aimed at stabilizing the economy, improving security, and addressing infrastructural deficits. He called on citizens to be patient and continue to support his government, assuring them that the administration was working tirelessly to turn things around.

Additionally, Tinubu urged political leaders and members of the public to prioritize the nation’s progress over personal or party ambitions. He emphasized that true leadership is demonstrated by working together to uplift the country, rather than focusing on future elections.

The event in Lagos was attended by top APC leaders and stakeholders from across the South-West region. Many lauded Tinubu's stance, describing it as a sign of strong leadership during challenging times.

In recent months, Nigeria has faced significant economic pressures, including inflation, unemployment, and the impact of subsidy removal on fuel prices. These challenges have led to widespread concerns among citizens, prompting calls for urgent action from the federal government. Tinubu's administration has introduced several economic reforms, although their full impact has yet to be felt across the board.

As the president focuses on governance, it remains to be seen how these efforts will shape his legacy and whether they will eventually translate into political capital for a potential second term bid. However, for now, Tinubu insists that his main goal is ensuring that Nigeria’s future is secured, regardless of the political landscape ahead.

His remarks have resonated with supporters who see the president as committed to making difficult decisions in the interest of long-term national development.
