Vice President Kashim Shettima Returns to Abuja After AU Summit in Addis Ababa
Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of African Union Heads of State and Government and the 30th AU General Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The summit, themed “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,” focused on Africa’s sustainable development in water management and sanitation.
Shettima held high-level bilateral meetings with political and business leaders to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic ties. He also met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who encouraged Nigeria to lead Africa’s advocacy for global institutional reform.
At a side event on “Building Africa’s Health Security Sovereignty,” the Vice President called for self-reliant health systems to reduce dependence on external supply chains.
