Residents in Sabon Birni say armed men attacked Maiwa village, forced families to flee and carried away women who were close to delivery.
A fresh raid in Sokoto State has left five residents abducted, highlighting the continuing vulnerability of border communities to fast-moving bandit attacks.
Security Developments
Bandits have abducted five residents of Maiwa village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, including two pregnant women said to be close to delivery.
According to a local source quoted by Daily Trust, the attackers entered the village on seven motorcycles at about 5 p.m. on Saturday, fired shots into the air and triggered panic before moving into homes to seize their victims.
Next Security Steps
The source alleged that police officers in the area fled after spotting two of the armed men in pursuit, leaving residents exposed. The abducted victims were identified as Sadiya Umar, Firdausi Umar, Maryam Musa, Ubaida Musa and Harira Nura.
Residents said the gunmen also rustled cattle, though some of the stolen cows were later returned. In the aftermath of the raid, many villagers fled across the nearby border into Niger Republic before returning the following morning.
The incident is another reminder of how fragile daily life remains in parts of Sokoto's border belt. Communities there still face the constant risk of raids that can empty homes, disrupt farming and push frightened families to seek safety elsewhere at short notice.
