The electoral commission has updated its records to reflect the leadership produced by the PDP convention backed by the Nyesom Wike camp.
INEC now recognises Abdulrahman Mohammed's National Working Committee, giving the Wike-backed bloc a major institutional advantage in the PDP's internal power struggle.
Government and Party Response
The Independent National Electoral Commission has updated its records to recognise the Peoples Democratic Party National Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, handing the Wike-backed faction a significant advantage in the party's leadership contest.
Checks on the commission's website showed Mohammed listed as national chairman alongside other officials from the same bloc, including Senator Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary and Ahmed Mohammed as national treasurer.
Political Negotiations
The recognition came a day after the PDP held a convention in Abuja attended by more than 2,000 delegates from across the country. Former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former governors such as Ayodele Fayose, Okezie Ikpeazu and Samuel Ortom were among the prominent figures at the event.
The decision is politically important because rival interests within the party had been contesting control of the convention and the national structure. Another faction associated with Kabiru Turaki had sought a Supreme Court intervention to stop the Wike-aligned convention from going ahead.
By listing the new officers, INEC has effectively given the recognised faction control over the formal party machinery for now. That could shape candidate nominations, internal negotiations and the wider direction of the opposition party ahead of the 2027 contest.
