At least 13 people were killed when bandits invaded a wedding gathering in Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, turning a late-night celebration into a scene of panic and grief.
Residents said the attackers arrived shortly before midnight on Sunday, stormed the venue with rifles and opened fire inside the hall. Several other guests were injured, with some taken to Kagarko General Hospital and more critical cases moved onward to Kaduna for treatment.
Ceasefire and Diplomacy
Community accounts also suggest that some people were abducted during the assault, although the exact number was still unclear as of Monday. A local leader said the gunmen operated for close to an hour, moving through the area without immediate resistance and later raiding nearby shops and a chemist.
Names of several victims had already begun to circulate in the community by the time the dead were buried, a sign of how deeply the attack shook families and local networks. Residents said no contact had yet been established with those believed to be holding the abducted victims.
The attack adds to the sense of insecurity hanging over rural communities in Kaduna, where public events and social gatherings remain vulnerable when armed groups move with speed and limited deterrence from local security formations.
