Pope renews appeal for peace as Middle East war grinds on

Pope Leo XIV has renewed his appeal for peace in the Middle East, urging an end to the war and a reopening of dialogue as violence continues across the region, Channels Television reports.

Speaking during his weekly Angelus prayer at the Vatican, the pope said the peoples of the Middle East had suffered two weeks of brutal warfare, with thousands of civilians killed and many more forced from their homes. He specifically mentioned attacks on schools, hospitals and residential areas.

The pontiff also said Lebanon was a special cause for concern and called on those driving the conflict to choose ceasefire and dialogue over further bloodshed. His message framed peace talks as the only path to justice, stability and the relief civilians are waiting for.
